The Problem with Amazon!!!!
Every time I go to Amazon.com and look at a review for a DVD/Blu Ray it always makes me angry. The other day I was reading a review of the Doctor Who R1 Happiness Patrol DVD and once again I noticed something that makes me mad a review was posted on the DVD before it has ever been released. The review that really caught my attention was from David W. Curry http://www.amazon.com/gp/pdp/profile/A1SOK8H08194UL/ref=cm_cr_rdp_pdp here is link to his other reviews. What makes me mad about this review is what is wrong with the Amazon review system right now. Here is a guy who supposedly reviewed the product, but has not even viewed the actual product being released. The guy has left out video/sound quality and special features so his review is based solely on the feature itself. What happens here is that this is an inaccurate review and does not do the product justice. The policy Amazon should take is in order to review the product on their site a code should be given to a person after the product has shipped and then the person can be able to review the product. However that is not the only thing wrong with Amazon's reviews they combine multiple different releases of the movie/show in the review page so a person might not even be able to read a review for the actual product.Don't trust review you read an Amazon is all I can say.

I think a big problem is that the more you review and the more "likes" your review gets gets you more incentives. I agree, it is a crappy policy and if the title is very popular, trying to find a worthwhile review can be difficult!
ReplyDeleteThe same thing happened to me with the same reviewer! I wanted to find out the quality of Doctor Who and the Daemons, since the VHS version that was released many years ago looked awful because the color was taken off a USA video tape that recorded off of broadcast televsion and was reprocessed back into the British PAL system. So I run into this guys review under his other account name Graves. Under this pen name he is an Amazon Vine member! So, I start reading his review about how GREAT the DVD is when I notice that it hasn't yet been released! When I write a comment chastising him and the others who have done this, he attacks me as David W. Curry, this is how I realized he was using two accounts. He then attacked me again under the name of chris "krill chino". Of course, with all these different accounts he's able to give himself good review ratings! And Amazon? They don't seem to care that someone is abusing their review system. I reported this and was told that as an Amazon Vine member he is able to see and review items that have yet to be released. Problem is, I'm an Amazon Vine member too, and Doctor Who DVDs have never been available for pre-release review and Grave's review does not show that he got an advanced copy. This guy's just some geek who watched the show on TV and then pontificates on them. It's maddening!
